So instead of needing to level up, you'll find your initial challenges will be things like foraging for food, finding a shelter, building a campfire, and getting your hands on a weapon because everything wants to kill you. H1Z1 is a post-apocalyptic survival MMO that's more focused on physicality than stats. To start off, Whisenhunt gave us a quick summary of the game for those who aren't clued in to the whole. To get a better feel for H1Z1, we got on the phone with Senior Designer Jimmy Whisenhunt. Is it almost too familiar for its own good? Will that familiarity be an asset or a drawback? Is SOE merely trying to cash in on the DayZ craze without trying much new? Or are these assumptions blinding us to the grander plan? In fact, there's a haze of extreme familiarity that's settled around this title, even though it's the first full MMO on this scale to tackle a zombie survival sandbox. If arrogance and superiority complexes could generate electricity, OCN would rule the world!ĬPU: Intel Core i7-6850K 4.5 GHz | Motherboard: ASUS TUF SABERTOOTH X99 LGA2011-V3 | GPU: SLI Asus STRIX GTX 980 ~1600 Core | RAM: 32GB 3000MHz HyperX Savage | Hard Drive: Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD | Hard Drive: Samsung 256GB SM951 M.2 SSD PCIe 3.0 x 4 (PE246204) | Hard Drive: WD 3TB Black SATA 6Gbs | Hard Drive: WD 4TB Red in RAID 1 | Hard Drive: WD 4TB Red in RAID 1 | Hard Drive: ICY DOCK DuoSwap MB971SP-B | Optical Drive: LG WH14NS40 14x SATA Blu-ray Internal Rewriter | Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 - 80 Plus Gold | Cooling: CPU - Corsair Hydro H110 | Cooling: GPU x 2 - Nzxt G-10 x 2 + Corsair H-90 x 2 | Cooling: Lamptron FC-5 V2 Fan Controller | Cooling: 4 Aerocool Dead Silence 140mm Fans on the radiators, 2-120mm and 1-140mm Spectres Pro case fans, 2-92mm Nanoxia FX-09 on the G-10s | Case: Corsair Carbide Series 400R | Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit | Operating System: LINUX KXStudio | Monitor: AOC i2769Vm 27-Inch Screen IPS Monitor | Monitor: AOC i2769Vm 27-Inch Screen IPS Monitor | Monitor: AOC i2769Vm 27-Inch Screen IPS Monitor | Monitor: BENQ GW2250 +1 Monitor | Monitor: Easymountlcd Triple Monitor Stand (002-0019) | Monitor: Homemade Extension and vesa mount for +1 Monitor | Keyboard: Top - CM Storm QuickFire TK (Red) Bottom - CM Devastator (Red) | Mouse: Cooler Master Storm Inferno | Mouse: Top of the Desk | Audio: TUF Onboard Audio | Audio: Cyber Acoustics Platinum CA-3550 | Audio: Logitech H390 Headset | Other: ASUS Wi-Fi PCI Express Adapter/400 upto 800 Mbps (PCE-AC56) | Other: Tripp Lite Isobar Supressor | Other: CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD 900 Watt Pure Sinewave UPS | Other: Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick | Other: upHere (3.What's more dangerous to your survival after the apocalypse: undead abominations or your fellow humans? OK, that's certainly not a new question in the zombie gaming genre, although it's not going to stop H1Z1 from asking it. This thread really isn't looking for any information, just felt like discussing this subgenre with other people. Seemed like no brainer "next steps" for the inevitable sequel.īut apparently the sequel was not so inevitable afterall. Random encounters, hostile humans, friendly human groups to cooperate with that don't "join" your own group, etc etc. Half the time I was playing SoD, I was thinking about how the dequel will fix all the problems and dumbed-down parts of the game, and will make it a truly exciting persistent open world single player experience. Better than any other zombie game I have ever played, including big budget games like Dying Light (which was very fun). Playing as any person in your group, the home base concept, the looting, the radio system. The single player style of SoD was very compelling. That sounds great in theory, but MMO's bring their own problems. I've seen it written that Undead Labs made SoD as a trial run for the game they really wanted to me, a zombie survival MMO. It did so much right, and as a first game of its type for the developers, it showed so much promise for what they could do in the future. State of Decay is the best zombie game ever made in my opinion.
